Why it doesn't work?

We have been in a volatile economic situation in the past couple of years. Many companies started to think and act on transforming the business to adapt and to develop strongly from the current status into a bigger future.

As an important part of this strategy, improving supply chain/operations is a chunky and top priority area that underpins the overall happening of the program.

Yet, it’s not uncommon that the top expectations to improve SC just cannot be fulfilled after many and long-time trials.

The reasons could be from a very wide spectrum.

From our experiences, a typical one is due to various gaps and blocks.

One example:

A company was trying to recruit a supply chain staff, yet after trying 20+ candidates, they didn’t get one satisfactory until i joined them. The company owner was very talented in Sales and Products. The company has been developing strongly since its establishment.

When the company processes were set up, quite an emphasis was given to the accounting and selling ends, which added some complexity to the internal processes. Somehow this complexity made it difficult for previous candidates to comprehend and to carry out the work.

This is the case of the gap between business model and supply chain understanding. The internal complexity became the block for simple execution by the operations team.

The situation was solved quickly by adding a small bridging process to get things linked for the value delivery; In the meantime, the operations were streamlined and simplified largely to make it easy to execute by almost anyone with a little bit of training.

The world is big. Your comments and thoughts are very much welcome on this topic.
