Another weakness with many companies' supply chain

 -  "One radish, one pit"

The set-up has many positive meanings:

❦ Providing psychological safety to employees

❦ Structured stability for the company

Here the weakness is not that much about this set-up itself. It’s more the reason/logic behind it.

Consider, if the structure was based on

1️⃣ Having the tasks as our team members’ daily duties, that should have been handled by their more directly responsible owners;

2️⃣ Fixing the issues which could have been eliminated by alternative arrangements from the beginning, eg having people to do extensive communication of the info which could have been synced across with some automation;

3️⃣ Including tasks as heavy and demanding as that of ancient agricultural practices, which could have been done in a much swifter and lighter way with modern methodologies;

... ...

Supply chain is a low-threshold area in the business world.

It has its deceiving nature that people of different levels of understanding can easily be made to believe what they know is all about it.

Once a supply chain is set up based on an outdated, overcomplicated way of thinking, the fact that ‘it has been working’, could make us easily have the justification to continue as it is.

One principle, we might all have is ‘we are not to fix that, if it’s not broken’.

Even if ‘that’ have been causing the unnecessary huge costs bleeding, wastage and vulnerabilities for a company; causing the unnecessary high pressure for team members due to the volatile situations they need to deal with daily.

Yet another common thing within us, is we don’t consider, what we don’t know, what we don’t see as possible, or as damage...

This makes the status quo deeply rooted and comfortably keep on in many companies.

Do we still remember the key-punching mobile phones?

Isn’t that each key has a function to justify its existence?  All of them do!

A good supply chain set-up may still go to 'one radish, one pit' way, once it has the foundation right, yet on a lifted dimension.

Great practice is we dynamically monitor and update our system to make sure it's current or even ahead. (Camel supports our clients aside on this)

I knew some pioneering company leaders had already initiated transformations in their companies to fix the issues, including the ones with the foundation.

It would be great to see the sharing of experiences.  ☕
