【 Which is more important? 】
🔹 The actual happening is more fundamental.
Supply chain involves large amounts of data & frequent transactions all the time. Reporting is inevitably part of the function routine to summarise and make sense of the happenings from a higher level. It’s very important to have this right, accurate and in-time.
Yet compared to supply chain actual happenings, I’d say it’s in the 2nd position.
The actual happening is what the reporting is reflecting on.
Reporting can be for internal communication, the happenings are what actually reach out to all stakeholders to generate impressions, impacts, deals and results.
This is where we are building rapport and mutually supportive relationships with people and other companies. There can be many ‘quiet’ heroes at both sides of relationships, who have been supporting a company’s ongoing running strongly.
This is why the daily inputs from all the team members need to be sufficiently understood, appreciated and sometimes be considerate towards.
And this is also why, when we implement supply chain improvements, ideation, charts are good by themselves, yet to really enjoy the benefits from the improvements, all the ideas need to go down to the daily happenings level.
【 Which is the higher priority? 】
🔹 This could be based on the situations ‘then and there’ or the long-term scenarios.
Generally, if the actual happenings are wrong for a long time, it could be detrimental to a company’s existence, however pretty the reporting is.
Yet wrong reporting could impact badly on management’s understanding and decision-making that in the end affects back the daily happenings.
Also, when it's for investor reviews or similar situations, we might not afford to slip a tiny bit.
Reporting is the necessary language for understanding, planning and shaping the happenings ultimately.

Ideally, reporting and actual happenings are perfectly aligned and both be present strongly, like a vessel sailing a long trip with sound steering and a well-built body. 🚢
When the resources are tight, this is where we need to strike a good balance between.
